Subject: Can't log into WindowsOS: XP ProCPU/Ram: 512 |
Comment: I suspect I might have a virus that is now allowing me log into Windows (I've had a virus alert also before that). I am stuck on the Windows logo screen (Windows loading screen) I have tried to log as normal, Safe Mode and Last known good configuration. But I am still stuck at the same screen. Is there another way to log into Windows so I can wipe the virus out or try to fix any other problem? Thank you in advance for your help.

Reply: Hi Jay, If this is just a home PC, getting you to log on each time is a pain, unless you have several other members in the house using the same PC. However, what you are not saying is that when you attempt to log on, does it inform you of INVALID PASSWORD or USER?? or does it simply do nothing?? Also, do check that CAPS LOCK is not on,, although it should inform you of that.

Reply: hi, normally it just loads Windows automatically. I perharps should have used the word "load" instead of "log-in". I have tried to chkdsk, but still nothing. I have thought about a format, but i have really important work on the hdd and don't have any spare one. Please help me!!

Reply: what do you use for anti-spyware programs? if you had a virus alert, go to www.trendmicro.com , use their free online scan for your whole system, and they will delete all the viruses on your system. if its not a matter of case sensitive font, then you have a virus that needs to be removed immediately.

Reply: p.s. if you cant load windows at all normally, list any weird programs that show running in safe mode ifyou can, and some may need to be deleted in order for your windows to load. are you using a firewall? you really should.

Reply: I cannot load Windows at all. I am using an anti-virus and a firewall but had to de-activate them for update. I would just need a chance to go into Windows to try to repair anything that is not running properly.
