Can't log into Windows XP Pro

I have a HP nc6000 running XP Pro and I cannot log into either BIOS or into XP. I got the PC on eBay and it did not come with an Administrator password. I used my old hard drive to run the PC and it was working fine.
Now, for some reason, I cannot log on to XP. I cannot run the XP CD to do a reinstall because the laptop is set up to boot from the hard drive so I cannot boot from the CD and I can't get into BIOS to change the boot sequence.
I can use the hard drive as a slave though. Is there any files that I can change while it's a slave to get it up and operating again ???

When you go to the HP site and read the owners manual, what does it say about accessing the bios?
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

jefro,
My question was not about HP's manual (the only thing it says is how to remove the RTC Battery - which I do not want to do because I know I'll screw it up).
The question that I asked was - if any file could be changed to rectify my problems when I slave the hard drive to another PC that would allow me to log on to either BIOS or into Windows XP.
Hopefully that's a little clearer,
Jerry

Why can't you access the BIOS? Do you not know which key to press? Try F10.
