can't log into my desktop

Dell Studio xps 8100 all-in-one desktop...

Specs: Windows XP
When I turn it on it comes up with the password prompt

When I put in my usual password it comes back with a message to say that the computer can't access my profile

I have spoken to the IT manager at the office who says I should be able to go in as the administrator Unfortunately I didn't realise that I should have set up administrator access at the same time as my regular password so this isn't an option

What should I do? I have tried the usual restart, Control Alt Delete (twice in succession), and just shutting it down and letting it think overnight about the error of its ways, but all to no avail

If you didn't set up administrator have you tried leaving the password blank or typed in admin....which is probably the default
