Okay, I admit it... I am a stupid idiot and I am in deep sh**! And I will never do it again but I need your help in order to fulfill that promise.
In short my problem is that I can't get into Windows XP on my laptop. The thing is that it's partially my own fault since I did an online-scan for spyware the other day and the service showed several spyware in especially the registry. I am usually careful with editing there and have done so several times with success but this time (due to many open windows) I confused a folder with another folder and in the moment I deleted, realized it. Unfortunately it was then too late. :( I rebooted the computer as I suddenly couldn't open some of the files and shortcuts (some error window came up and don't ask me what exactly it said as I don't remember) and I came - again for the last time - to see my desktop. However, I still had the same problem with the files and rebooted a second time. This time, I only got to the blue screen with the XP-logo and from there it simply won't start. I read on this and other forums about possible solutions. I tried all of them without success so far....
1. I tried to boot from the Windows XP CD! Nothing...
2. I tried to boot into several possible modes like safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, debugging mode, last known good configuration, directory services restore mode, normal mode, reboot mode! Nothing...
3. I studied the solutions on this forum and tried i.e. to download, extract, create, burn and install BartPE but I didn't get any further than to where you create the ISO-files (that someone said have to be used to be burned on a boot CD that is then inserted into the PC with the XP-problem) with the BartPE program because it won't find or recognise the necessary files on the XP-CD that it asks for before starting the process in BartPE. So, neither did this very good idea work out. :(
4. I tried to connect to another PC with a DSL-cable but it can't connect to the laptop or recognise it either when it's in that blue window with the XP-logon.
5. I tried at boot-up to hit ctrl-alt-del but no response...I can tell you as much as that the key I deleted was in h_key_local_machine-->software-->classes... ah, well the last folder after that (the one in which I deleted a key by mistake) I can't remember but it was something beginning with "C" I think. And the deleted key was inside that folder.
Since I had problems with some virii a couple of months ago, I had turned system restore off and realised first now that I had overlooked and forgotten to turn it on again so it wasn't enabled either. :(
Is there ANYBODY, who pleeeez could help me out with some idea(s)?!! Pleeeez, I mean I could probably format the harddisk with some Windows 2000 CD, but it would be breaking my heart since I got so much personal stuff on there. If I could only save that and not the OS, well then that would be - to some extend - acceptable too. Of course I'd like to get the machine running again, but if not...
Pleeez, help me out people!
Thanks already now for any idea that could help...!

Well i got an idea for you ..
open the case of your pc then take off your hard disk and then install it in some other pc .. then you will be able to save your personal files .. afterwhat i would re-install a fresh os ...
if you dont know how to install you HD in another pc .. look on google .. youll find a lot of info .. hope this help you ..

Ouch!!
It sounds like you have tried pretty much everything.
You didn't say, and it sounds like you are runnning NTFS, but just in case I am wrong and you're running FAT32, then it's just a simple case of using dos to transfer personal files off before a clean install. You shouldn't have to place extra programs on the BART disk (Maybe they have changed it since I got mine) but there should be an option to continue without adding the extra files. You still end up with a stand alone boot disk with enough options to move, copy, paste and delete.
Non the less, this is EXACTLY the reason I went back to FAT32. With NTFS, it's a mess when you crash and you can't get any of the XP recover systems to work. With FAT32, when all else fails...you can always go back and solve the problem through dos.
good luck!!

Well in fact with ntfs its easy to restore your system or recover your data too .. all you need is the good tool .. like winternal.com go there n look for erd commander 2003 !! youll see what im talking about :) !

Now, when you say you tried to boot from the XP cd, it would not recognize the cd, for it still would not boot?? If it does see the cd, did you do a restore from within the cd?? you can try and install windows on top of itself (this will keep your current files but you will lose your dirvers). If you do a fresh install, and want to save your stuff, put your hdd into a different computer, as a slave dr (you might have to mess with the jumper settings on the back of the hdd but they should be labeled on top of your hdd), then copy the necessary files you want to keep from that hdd to the other one (or i find it easy just to copy the entire hdd that way you can simply pull any file from there that you may have forgot too in do time) then do the fresh install, and repeat the process (except the other way).
