OK - I tried to search through the forums to find the answer, but I'm not real tech saavy and I don't really know what to look for.
I recently purchased a new computer, and I can no longer check my webmail (University of Kansas) with this new computer, nor can I visit a lot of sites (security??) that I used to with my old computer.
I also can't log into certain sites. I like to keep up with my Jayhawks by reading phog.net, but I can no longer log onto the phog.
My roommate is on the same LAN as I am, at our apartment, and I can do all of these things from her computer...
I tried messing with my security settings but that didn't work...
Please, please, please help if you can!
Thanks - Lauren

Lauren: if your roomate is using XP, get a notepad and write down her computer settings and then use those for your own computer.
look for:all the settings in IE Tools, Internet Options, all tabs.
does she have a firewall? is it active?
if yes, open it and record the program settings.check the Startup folder;
click Start, Run, type: msconfig
open the Startup tab and record all listed programs.
if you have some that she does not; disable those that are different on your computer (uncheck them).compare the settings for the webmail, if in doubt, go thru the University guide again.
even with a "new" computer, you likely need many Windows Updates;
click Start, All Programs, click on Windows Update, follow the prompts and select the updates classified as Critical or Security.
leave the other categories for later.update your antivirus program every weekend.
run a full system scan immediately and thereafter as needed.click Start, Run, type: regsvr32 urlmon.dll
and press the Enter key.download Java from:
http://java.sun.com/getjava
if after all of the above and still no joy, then Submit Follow Up on this page for instructions on repairing IE.
