Hello everyone, right, i've never had problems with my computer before until today and yesterday. One thing that doesn't make it any easier to fix is that I bought my computer of a friend, who built it himself so i'm not sure of the exact hardware I have been using it
for months and never had any problem, until now!But here is the problem anyway..

Yesterday morning I started up my computer as usual, it reached the black screen with the XP Logo on and the blue bar scrolling to the right just below it. Now it stayed on this screen for absolutely ages, normally its only there for about 30 seconds but it was on it for about 2-3 minutes and then crashed. After leaving it a while I restarted the computer from the front, it then came up saying that my computer had crashed on the last start up and asked how I wanted to load it up, I chose the standard windows start up and it did the same thing again. So I restarted, this time when it asked me the same question I chose safe mode and it crashed on loading that up too. I restarted again and it got onto my Windows start screen but everything was loading very slowly, it took about 5 minutes for the icons next to the clock to load up, and when they did I clicked on the screen and it crashed. I restarted the computer again and this time it loaded fine, completely as usual. It ran fine and I used it all day without any problems at all.I turned the computer off at the end of the day and didn't worry about it turning on today as I thought it was just a quick tempremental problem it was having.

But I turned the computer on today and had exactly the same problem, I got into safe mode ok this time but it was so slow I could hardly do anything. One good thing though - This time on the XP login screen it brough up an actual error, but this was only after about 30 mins of restarting the

computer etc..

The file or directory /System Volume Information/_restore{7F7A9931-0BD0-4EDF-A05A-2A40ED2C7423}-/RP789/change.log is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility.

Then it changed and gave me the message, all the same except the C: Drive prefix:

The file or directory C:/System Volume Information/_restore{7F7A9931-0BD0-4EDF-A05A-2A40ED2C7423}-/RP789/change.log is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility.

I logged on and its gotten me to my desktop and its not running very fast but it is giving me warning in the bottom corner telling me that same errr message again.

So I put it to you all, does anyone know how the heck to fix my computer? =D

The actual CD ROM light doesn't stay on no, i'm not sure if that light even works though, i can't recall seeing it on ever (Although my computer is undermy desk so I guess I wouldn't)The light that stays on constantly is the main light under the restart button which to me just means 'its thinking' trying to load things etc, but it doesn't go off at all. I'm not sure what I would disconnect for that.

Something else I just noticed, I have two hard drive, one for applications and one for media, the one which is normally called 'media' is just called hard disk now and i can't seem to access it. How about disconnected that hard drive and reconnecting it? (I can get a friend to do this)

There is definately a major corruption here, if I were you I would dissable system restore (which should let you past the error and be able to boot). Appearently it is being compromised by malware, after you are able to boot run a vast arsenal of antivirus/antispyware tools. That should cure what ailes ya.
