hi

have a big problem, detected a virus on my pc and got rid of it but now all my programs in the startup menu wont load. it goes 'Windows cannot find 'program'. Make sure you typed the name correctly etc' the program is where it is suppose to be but it wont load up even when I go to the directory and double click the file. Also, in Control Panel, I cant load any of the icons, 'Windows cannot find 'rundll32.exe'....' rundll32.exe is where it is suppose to be. Anyone can help please?? I dont want to reinstall.

Thanks in advance

Loong

You could have some adware, spyware or other malware. If you don't have Spybot (http://beam.to/spybotsd) or Adaware (Lavasoft.com), download them. up date them, and run them, and check for things you should delete. These are good free programs that will clean up a lot of junk on your computer.

You will likely need to use another computer for this since you cant run any exe's. The virus you had likely messed up your .exe file associations.

Try the fix from this site

http://dougknox.com/

XP fixes> file association fixes> exe association fix> it will come as a zip, you wil need to unzip it and put the .reg file on floppy, put floppy in problem computer and d click the .reg file, yes the prompt to merge with registry.
Further instructions on the site above.

Good luck

found out i have the BKDR_OPTIXPRO.13 virus but i cant seem to get rid of it. I followed the trend micro instruction, the only part i didnt do was find the program in the task manager and remove it, the reason why is i dont know which program to end. the infected file is in windows/system32/mpldfg.exe but it is not running in the task manger.
