Specs: Windows XP, 512
My comp has I dont even kno how many viruses. Last week I jusgot 1 from facebook, thinking my actual friend sent me a link to watch a video smh. Anyway, would like to just write computer clean n make it fresh again. But I do not have the emachines disks that came with the computer. So a friend gave me their operating system cd that came with there gateway. When I pitt in the cd I click on install windows xp but it says setup cannot continue because the version already installed is newer than the one on the cd. So it tells me to boot from the cd. So when I boot from cd it starts and then it doesn't go past where it says Setup is inspecting ur hardware configuration. The computer just shuts down and keeps trying to boot again n I hit any key again to boot from cd and then it stops on that screen again and will shut off n reboot. If I don't press a key windows will start up normally. I really dont want an older operating system n would rather have a newer one, but this is the only operating disc I could come across. Any suggestions please?

I suggest you try and find a windows XP disk preferably the one with service pack 2, the gateway disk may not work properly on your computer. Also when you get to the part where it brings up the hard drive partitions available to install on, delete the partition containing your old windows and then have it create a new partition......some viruses can remain if the partition is not deleted entirely. After installing Windows you will need to load the drivers for the various devices listed in the device manager.
