Hi, i have a problem. I can`t install xp home edition. It works up to where it asks if you want to install or repair and then it gives the error message of: irql not less or equal then the install stops. If someone can tell me wants wrong or what to do to get xp installed on my computer I would appreciate it. Thank you!

My computer specs are:

Amd Duron 1ghz CPU
256mb Sdram
k7sem Motherboard
ATI Rage 128 16mb Video Card
10gb Seagate Hard Drive
32x CD-Rom

irql not less or equal error usually indicates a hardware problem, normally the memory or video.

As I can vouch for the ATA Rage 128 video card and Windows XP its pointing to-wards a memory problem. Windows XP is known to be more fussy about memory than previous versions.

Download and run Memtest86 and give your memory a good checkout.

Googling this brings a really varied bunch of resonpses...video cards but might be a video driver issue with an Nvidia card. Also Norton Antirus cropped up as a cause in a few places and a ram problem in one or two as well.

The motherboard Elitegroup Computer System k7sem has an onboard SiS Video Controller and 1 optional AGP 4X slot for AGP2.0 compliant Video card. Elite
[ECS] K7SEM(3.0A) motherboard Manual .
(Page# 16 of PDF Mainboard Manual)says that the AGP 4X slot only supports NVIDIA 4X AGP card.

Help me! When I try to install Windows XP
PRO, It all goes by fine and dandy but when
it is "configuring hardware" it shuts down
my computer. Well, it stays on, but there
is no video feed. My computer was working
2 days ago. Then I had a missing .sys
file. So I formatted and now It won't
install windows.

Looks like there is a Problem with one of the hardware in your PC that caused the first "missing .sys file" problem that surfaced "two days ago" [there is no mention in the post about how long after the first time install this happened] that prompted you to the extreme measure of Reformat & Reinstall and the current problem of hanging at "Hardware Configuration" during setup.

Which AMD compatible Asus MoBo are you using? Do you have any peripheral devices like Printer,or USB port using devices currently connected to the System? What Power Supply unit do you have in this pc (what wattage)?
Posting your problem on a separate thread could have gotten you better and faster responses:-)

I am not sure on the Power Supply. I had
Windows installed for about 4 months before
it did this. I have taken everthing off
of my computer that doesn't have to be
there. And then tried again. I am
guessing it is my mother board because when
it shuts off the Video my keyboard doesnt
work either. I have an Asus A75333 Socket
745.

You may be right.I am sorry the prognosis looks grim indeed. The only thing you could try is a different AMD supported PSU to rule out Power issue. IF PSU is Good then your fear about bad MoBO seems more likely the cause :-(
