Windows XP gives me cryptographic service error and won't let me install the msblast.exe patch. and my company's computer has the virus. What should I do?

I used the same patch on my computer and my friends without any problems.

If you are talking about a single computer, why don't you just remove it manually? It will take you 10 minutes, and your AV updated index will protect you from future infections.

I posted on this several days ago.

If you're getting the Cryptographic error in (update.inf) it's normally because the worm has corrupted your Catroot2 directory.

Go to \Windows\System32 and rename the Catroot2 folder something like Catroot2old

Then go and run the patch. All should be well.

I found an answer from someone online and this worked.

1. Goto start, run, and type command. In command prompt type: stop cryptsvc
Close out of command prompt.

2. Show hidden files - goto my computer and click tools at the menu bar, scroll down to folder options and open it. Click on the view tab and click on show hidden files and folder radial button.

3.Go to your windows drive (eg, c:\windows) then goto folder system32 and find CatRoot folder, or you can type this in your address bar C:\WINDOWS\systems32\CatRoot and C:\WINDOWS\systems32\CatRoot2

4.Move or Del any files that exist on CatRoot and CatRoot2

5.Then run the patch

Here's some instructions I found from the link below.

Updates fail to install.

In most cases a corrupted CatRoot2 folder causes this. You can fix this by renaming the \Windows\System32\CatRoot2 folder to CatRoot2OLD.

Note that you do not want to rename the \Windows\System32\CatRoot folder!

Now try again to get the update that failed to install previously.
