Hi everybody.
I downloaded sp2 from Windows Update this morning. When I try to install it, a message telling me that atapi.sys cannot be copied appears. According to Microsoft's knowledge base, the only programs that can cause this problem are Daemon Tools (which I don't have) and Alcohol 120%. I uninstalled Alcohol 120% and tried again after reboot with the same result. Tried installing sp2 in safe mode and atapi.sys is still locked. I've read that moving this file from its location works, but can't do it either. It appears as being used by another program or process (even in safe mode). Any input on this issue is highly appreciated.
Thank you for your replies. Richard: I looked that thread, but nothing worked. I tried with cmd and then endlocal atapi.sys and nothing happens. The CD burning program I use is RecordNow Max and it doesn't start with Windows. Josh: Here is the processes' list in safe mode:
taskmgr.exe explorer.exe svchost.exe (two instances) Lsass.exe Services.exe Winlogon.exe csrss.exe smss.exe System Inactive process
