HELP.. I am trying to install a brand new disk of windows XP home edition into a brand new computer with all new components. I have done this many times before without the nightmare that I now have. When I try to boot up from the cd, I get "file setupdd.sys could not be loaded error code is 14". I have been working onthis for days and cant get anywhere . I even sent the shuttle case and mboard back to the company but they tested it and said no problem found.
I even tried to load win 98 2nd. After doind fdisk and formatting the hd, it would load onle so far and then syop right after scandisk said no problem found with hdd. HELP!!!

I had a similar experience. Turns out it was two things (but one of these could cause it on it's own)

A: Bad memory stick, as said above
B: Incorrect memory frequency set in BIOS
C: Dip Switch on MB was set to lock the board at 100MHz.

It also could be (but very unlikely) that it's the HDD, but there's more of a chance that it's the CD-ROM drive. I'd first go into BIOS and make sure you have everything set correctly (FSB, Memory Timings, etc) though, and then make sure everything's physically set correctly on the MB. My board's BIOS will still report operation at 166MHz, even when in reality the Dip Switch is limiting it to 100MHz. Frustrating. I kicked myself when I found out that was the only reason.

Good luck,
Jager
