Just got my new barebones pc and put in ll the hdwe. (2 HD,2 cdrom, floppy and mem sticks. looking in bios everything was recognized and was even able to see files in dos of other partitions. I had formated the c drive prior to taking out of my old pc.
I have a bootable xp cd and it gets to the part saying starting windows and you can select putting files is c drive. then it just restarts. someone said the partition may not be recognized by windows install disk. any ideas

Your install description is vague and there is never a choice of install files to c:. There is a choice of where to install xp.
Any format you did on c: as long as it was fat, fat32 or ntfs will be seen by xp.
I suspect you are not feeding the install the ide or sata driver. Usually you end up with a message no drive found hit any key to reboot.

wanderer,
thanks for the input. sorry about the vague descript. when it boots up all the ide drives are shown and the fre space, etc.
I have it boot using cd and it goes thru all the motions of loading files from windows and then gets to the screen that says do you want to load windows on drive c and gives the available space (25 gigs). I click ok then comes the screen asking if I want to format (quick) to fat32 or ntsf or just continue when you are, anything I select brings up the next screen and then goes to reboot.

So you never see a bunch of files being copied as listed on the bottom bar?
Sounds more like a crash than just a reboot.
I would suggest downloading memtest and running it to test your memory. That would be the first place to look.

sorr, I do see a bunch of files being copied on the bottom bar. then it says starting windows and I get these other screens giving me the options I mentioned then when i hit enter it reboots.
I have 2 mem chips , 1 512 and another 1 gig.
then worked fine in the other pc and both theses mb's support ddr1 2700. I could have messed one up instlling thou. I will check it. thanks

ok. I took out the mem chips one at a time and sure enough it was the 1 gig that was bad and so I just using the 512 till tomorrow, but it is loading fine now. thanks for the suggestion,

Glad you figured it out and got xp installed. Thanks for posting back to tell us what happened.
