I've been trying all day to instal NIC on my PC (WinXPsp2) but no success. The system wont install NIC no matter what. Tried different cards, same thing. However he instals pcket scheduler for NIC but not the nic it self. i tried adding the card manualy but then I get an error "device can not start". Tried using winsockfix hopin it will help but no progress. Any idea how to get my NIC working without reinstalling the system?

Do you have the driver for it ?? If so , Then try go to devise manager and find your net adapter , uninstall it from there , then restart your computer , your computer should notice that there is a new hardware which is your NIC , Once that happen just follow the instruction and make sure to add your driver when it ask for it , then you should be ok

You didn't say what brand you card was. If you stick with the big brands (Linksys, Dlink,Belkin, etc) you probably wouldn't have a problem in xp. There are just some hardware that windows xp will not support.

Yes I have drivers and cards are PCI Intel and Realtek card's. If you read more closely you would see that device manager doesn't find any NIC I put in. And like I said. If I install drives manualy I still get "device cannot start" !!!

Do you have DOS diagnostics for the NIC?

So you can find out if the NIC is good and what IRQ it is set to.

And depending on the NIC, maybe assign an IRQ that will work.

Ofcourse the NIC's are good. They work fine on other computers. IRQ assigment won't help much since device manager won't even recognise and install NIC so I can't change it.
