Hello, all. I bow to your wisdom! I have attempted to install IE7. The installation wizard finishes and then tells me that the installation failed. After the required restart a new Microsoft Icon appears on the desktop which leads me here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917925

I have tried all the steps listed on that webpage and none came up with a solution. That is to say, my computer didn't have any of the problems described. I unistalled my anti-spyware stuff and even disabled my firewall and Norton. To tell the truth, I am perfectly happy with IE6, so it's not like it is an emergency. However, I wonder what it could be? Help, anyone?

'fraid i don't have a solution, but the same happened to me on my test computer, no matter what i tried, it wouldn't take the damned thing :-)

that mskb link is completely useless, i did everything 'by the book' ... to no avail.

in the end i went for a clean xp reinstallation (well, used a ghost image), installed ie7 first and then it worked. i must say, any firefox upgrade i've seen as yet was far less troublesome :-)

now, this is only IE7, i wonder what will happen to those poor souls who are buying an xp OEM pc now with a vista 'upgrade' voucher. will MS leave them with a nice KB link on the desktop when everything's got screwed up badly? :-)

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

If you are happy with IE 6 then stick with it. I downloaded IE 7 and noticed an increase in speed of websites coming on to the screen -- However, I could not get to my hotmail account to retrieve my e-mails and my DVD players (all of them) could not play any DVD. Hotmail had me signed in, but when I went to get the e-mails, it kept asking for my password and then it would say signed in, but kept asking for password every time I tried to get e-mails. I ended up uninstalling IE 7 and going back to IE 6. I w3ill wait until all the bugs are gone!!

I tried IE7 yesterday and noticed a pretty good little speed increase too; I was quite surprised at the difference. However, I wasn't very impressed with the appearance so I reverted back to IE6.
The un-install went fine; sorry I can't offer any help as to why you're encountering those un-install troubles...

Can't install IE? Why would you want to? Firefox is totally user configurable, or it's great right out of the box. And with a tiny add-on you can switch to the IE engine for access to those picky websites, like Microsoft.com

Give it one week and you'll never go back!

I have noticed a noticeable speed DECREASE especially compared to Firefox 2.0. It seems to be the phishing filter that slows it down. Also sometimes going backwards and forwards over the same pages several times will cause a freeze at the "connecting" phase causing me to have to close IE7 and start over.
