Can't install DVD SATA drive

Trying to install Plextor DVD PX716SA SATA on ASUS A8VE Deluxe. Have Bios set to SATA Enable. Mode IDE (not RAID). During boot I see the drive is recognized but when Windows comes up it doesn't see the hardware/ Any Suggestions?? Thanks

windows XP doesnt liek SATA that much unles you have SP2 installed. Do you?

Install SATA drivers - they're on the mobo CD or Asus website (XP is quite happy with SATA from original release - though have never tried a DVD writer, just hard drives on this interface). Also surprised the DVD drive doesn't come with drivers/instructions (they're certainly not the commonest form of DVD writer).

Actually I have read just the opposite of what Ted just said. What I have read is that SP2 can cause issues with SATA drives.

Maybe you just have to enter the BIOS and turn on the particular controller ID. Depending on which one you have connected the device to.
Available (on mine) are four. They are ID#s 0, 1, 2 and 3. Make sure you get the correct ID# for the connector.
If you have other SATA devices (such as a hard drive) then you shouldn't have to reinstall the controller but just, perhaps, the DVD's drivers.
Summary: I'm putting together a new computer based on an Asus A7N8X-E mobo, which has integrated SATA & RAID on it, but I can't get the WinXP setup program to see the SATA drive! I'm only installing 1 160GB SA...
Summary: i have a NEC 5500A DVD Player, and i can't get windows xp to to accept the drivers. Does anybody have any ideas to help me get this installed. Thank you. David ...
