I cannot install the final release of Directx 9.0 on Windows XP. Error message pops up saying that "this program hasn't passed the windows logo test" - no go from that point. I'm beta testing a game that requires dx9.
(yes, i'm an admin on the machine, yes, i do have all possible windows installer policies set in group policies, all updates, service packs, drivers, crypto service running, no, i didn't see that happening before)

That message is usually just a warning. most of the time you can just click "continue" and it will still go on. i have installed a lot of programs that say the same thing, but i click continue and it goes fine. microsoft is just saying that if there is a problem with the program that it is not there fault.
let me know more detail about what options you have to choose from if this doesn't work!

Directx 9.0 is made for xp so i dont understand why you are getting that error. I can install it fine

skull nose: i know the msg is *usually* just a warning. i keep having it most of the time installing various drivers. the problem is, during dx9 install, it says IT WON'T let me continue, there's a definite stop sign and no usual "continue" option. it behaves like it was smarter or something. :( as of details - there ain't any, as there are no other options but to fail-close the install.
one hint though - when i try to fire up mdxredist.msi it says "installer has encountered unexpected error (...) this may indicate a problem with the package. error code 2908." (which indeed means an error in a package) - the problem is, i get it with ANY dx9 package, be it a whole 30 meg exe, or web installer. no go whatsoever.legaly: well, i don't understand it either ;)
i wish somebody could come up with a trick. i know of one guy that had exactly the same problem, but havent heard of anyone else. i just hope it's not THAT rare.....
