I'm having a problem hearing my System Sounds (Startup, Shutdown, etc.). I'm not sure what I did, but now every time that I startup or shutdown Windows, I don't hear those system sounds. I can hear everything else, though, like other WAVe's, MP3's, etc. I made sure that the volume isn't muted and is turned up. I also made sure that I selected Windows Default as the sound scheme under "Sounds and Audio Device Properties" in the Control Panel. Also, I can play the sounds there (under "Program events") just fine so I know that the files still exist. What is going on?

seems that the device drivers are loading after windows starts... I would consider boosting that 128MB of RAM to 256 or better.

Good Luck

Did this problem just occur, or have you had this problem for awhile now?

Consider checking Windows Update for an update on the Sound card driver.

instead of checking for windows soundcard updates, i'd go to the manufacturer's website of the sound card and get updates from them. but you'll need to know your sound card info such as model and perhaps version number. it is shown on the sound card itself. you must open up your cpu to see it. the model & version should be on the top side of the sound card.

If you go outside and kick one of the tires on your car, and then lick your mouse on the wheel so that paper will stick to it, then stick paper to it. It will now work fine, just kidding I have no idea hwo to fix your problem but thought everyone would like to get a laugh tonight.

This problem just started actually. I was hearing the system sounds just fine and now they're gone. Like I said, I can hear other wave sounds, midis, and MP3's just fine, but not the system sounds so it's probably not a driver issue. (I have tried re-installing the drivers, too.)

Also, if I log into one of the other admin accounts on Windows, everything works perfectly, and I can hear everything including the startup/shutdown sounds. Now, isn't this strange?
