Can't get xp installed blue screens

CPU/Ram: 1.1ghz duron/512 ddr ram

I had some problems with my computer freezing so i formatted now after formatting even low level formatting i can't install XP i get a blue screen just after the first screen and when i tried 98 i get a gpf with user.dat and setup

Check to see if you have bad memory (ram). Either go to SimmTester or MemTest86.

WEll i took out a stick of ram and got windows 98 installed but it just freezes after its loaded. i'm going crazy here
