I have an xp home version which I can't connect to the LAN.
I'm not into XP much so be gentle with me!Can someone tell me what exactly needs to be done to get xp home connected correctly and reliably?
I've got 1 xp home working, the config on the other is the same but it doesn't work.
I can ping all Servers and the Router.
I can get on the Internet via the Router.Note. I can not map a drive or see the network structure! on this box!
I did see the network before a Server going down, but now can't see the new Server! or Network structure!I have the workgroup set to match the Network Domain!
I'm trying to connect this box to a LAN! Not a workgroup!
I'm the Domain/Server Administrator so I have full access on all workstations and LAN!?
Would XP pro upgrade be a better option?
Help please?
john

Pro is supposed to have more/better networking capability. XP has an inbuilt firewall and that may be part of your problem. You may have a better response in the networking forum. There's also a good website with lots of info on windows networking
www.wown.com

If you're trying to join XP Home to a domain, you're out of luck. XP Home isn't equipped to join a Domain unless you're willing to do some major mods to the OS. XP Pro is meant for this kind of networking.
You can use a domain user's logon on the Home machine to access domain resources, but I don't allow rogue computers on my networks.

Thanx Richard59:
www.wown.com is good little site but nothing found in a search for xp home on networking!
Thanx Tropic:
I don't support XP Home on Networks! but when you're asked to do it you can only advise NO! and then just get on with it! :(I did have this machine working ok b4 the new server went in! but now it just will not connect!
I think an xp pro upgrade is on the cards!Thanx again both for the prompt feedback.
Jabba.
