I just bought a new computer with Windows XP on it. I loaded my old WordPerfect 7 software using XP's Program Compatibility Wizard (setting it for Windows 95) and was able to get it loaded up. Everything seemed fine until I tried to open my WordPerfect documents to work on them. I can't get any of my documents to come up. And I did instruct the WordPerfect program where my document files were located (using the edit/preferences/files menu in WordPerfect). But WordPerfect won't even hang on to that information. If I come back to the preferences menu, the info I typed in just 10 seconds earlier for the location of my files is still blank, as if the info I gave it was never saved. If I type on WordPerfect and then try to save my work, I get an error message asking me if I want to report the problem to Microsoft and then my WordPerfect shuts down. Is there any way to get WordPerfect 7 to run properly with Windows XP or are the two just not able to work together? My WordPerfect 7 program worked fine on my older computer which was running Windows 95. I'm guessing that this is a problem related to XP's incompatibility with older programs rather than a problem with my WordPerfect program. I don't really want to buy a new version of WP, because I'm happy with my older program. Besides, I paid good money for it and I want to keep using it. I tried going to Microsoft's website where they are purported to have a list of older software compatible with XP. No such luck. I couldn't figure out half of what they had on that site. I couldn't find anything about compatibility of older programs with XP on Corel's website either (Corel makes WordPerfect). Has anyone else run into this problem of older versions of WordPerfect
not working with Windows XP? What can I do?

A few users reported problems running Wordperfect 7 under XP. You will need to enable Win95 compatiblity mode for the program to work. Full instructions are included in the help file center for WinXP. If that still fails, then I'm afraid you will need to purchase the latest version of Wordperfect.

If that doesn't work, it sounds as if the program might not have rights to write to its own preferences file. Check your security settings. For myself, I had to disable simple file sharing in order to take control of XP.
