can't get volume icon in task bar

hello, when i go to control panel and sounds to click on the check box for volume control in the taskbar, it states i have to load it off the cd...but i can't find it on the xp cd...can someone help me out?

It sounds like you have not updated the drivers for your soundcard to XP. If you know what brand of soundcard you have go to their site for the latest drivers, or use the drivers area of this forum on the left hand side to get them.
If you go to control panel and open up the sounds and audio devices, click on the volume tab, under mute there is a box...place volume icon in taskbar...check it, voila! Now, you will the volume icon on your taskbar. No need to update or go to your CD.....Bah!

yeah, that IS the box i tried to check, but it states the program needed isn't on my winXP. i did update the drivers...but it still won't let me put a volume control in the task bar! grrrrr! i do have the creative sound live item there now, so at least i can adjust the volume there if needed...it's just more of a pain in the ass.
