Howdy,
I am a brand new Win XP Home user on a new Compaq computer and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get Sound Recorder to record music from various sites (Just one of many things I have yet to figure out ...lol).
In my old Win95a I would simply go to a site where I wanted to copy some music and then bring up my 'Sound Recorder', start playing the music I wanted to record and push 'record' on my Sound Recorder and I was off to the races.
However, I am unable to pull this off with my XP. I have tried searching this site and a few others along with Google but to no avail.
I follow the directions given in the 'Sound Recorder' Help section but it doesn't work for me either.
What I am basically trying to do is be able to record any .wav or midi files I come across that I like and save them to my computer.
Any ideas?
Thanks and regards,
Phil

Not sure if this is what you are wanting to do, but if you are listening to .wav .mp3 or .midi files online, and want to get a copy of them, just right click on the link and go to Save Target As, rather than opening the file. That way you get the original file in its original quality, rather than recording it after it plays through your sound card. The method you use would degrade the quality somewhat. If that is not what you're after, perhaps list a specific example of what you're trying to do.

Hi Gareth,
I understand what you are saying about 'Save Target As'.
However, what I am trying to do and what I did in the past with my old Win95a Sound Recorder is the following.
Say I Save the Marine Corps Hymn into 'My Music' folder. Then I find a nifty wallpaper depicting some event in Marine Corps History and I would like to have some music accompany it on startup.
At this point I would just bring up Sound Recorder and record however much or little I wanted before putting it in my Windows Media folder to be used at startup.
But right now when I attempt to record with my Sound Recorder in WinXP it won't work.
Hope I made it a little clearer.
Thanks and regards,
Phil

Hi Gareth and all,
In case your still following this thread thanks for hanging in there with me.
I think I discovered the problem. At least
I got it working like in my old Win95a.I brought up the Sound Recorder and clicked on File > Properties > Convert Now >
and under 'Name' scrolled to 'CD Quality' > clicked OK and I was off to the races. This made my Sound Recorder a working one at last.
Thanks for your time and help.
Regards,
Phil
