I had an old printer I uninstalled, and now when i startup, there is an error code 7000 saying my Lexmark X73 MFP Scanner couldnt be detected, but that printer's long gone. I recently did an online driver update scan and that same printer was listed under drivers that should be updated. What can i do to cleanse my system of the Lexmark? I can't reinstall then uninstall the software for it because I sold the printer. Any ideas? Please help!

You might be able to get what you need at the Lexmark support area under downloads. Install it and then uninstall as you suggested in your post.

The driver file may be gone but a registry entry may still exist. There are also other places where the device could be referenced. I suggest that you download and run Regcleaner 4.3. This free registry cleaner is safe to use and may clean up this problem. Find it here: http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/archives/reg-cleaner4.3.htm

I've scoured the reg using registry crawler and deleted all it allowed me to related to lexmark. now, the error in event viewer tells me about LXARScan not being able to be started. Im currently on LXARScan's trail and hopefully i can eradicate it. Thanks. Ill keep you updated.

Have you tried running msconfig?
Start
Run
type "msconfig" (no speech marks)
Look in the startup list for anything that refers to lexmark.hth
Im pretty sure XP Home has msconfig. ???

Thanks, but im way past the msconfig step.

You may have tried this, but in Control Panel>Printers and Faxes, click File>Server Properties, then the Drivers tab in the new dialog box. Remove the printer from there if it's still listed. You could also check the Ports tab to see if there are any references in there.

You should always try the manufacturer :-) They often have the fix you need. Lexmark has a clean utility

Turn off the Lexmark Printer Service. Not sure of the exact name of it.
Just go to Run and type Services.msc
It will be on there somewhere, disable it.

open your hardware manager, in view click "show hidden devices".
there will be an entry for the printer. try to uninstall, if so great, if not, you will get a message saying that this device cannot be uninstalled as its a startup device(something like that) to overcome this, plug the printer your using into the same port, and try to uninstall again.if you still have the old printer plug it in and then uninstall
Time is the universe's tool, used to stop everything happening at the once.
