Can't get rid of adware.

Yesterday I upgraded something from Microsoft. Tot too long after that, McAfee notifies me with the pop ups that it found a trogan. Then it kept finding more. It found at least 4-5 trogans. On top of that, I now have adware that I can't seem to get rid of. McAfee detects it and says it's an unwanted program and I delete them, but everytime I scan my computer, they're back. I've used Spybot and Ad-aware. None of them seem to get rid of the adware. The last time I had problems with adware, it was a trogan and McAfee got rid of it...now, for some reason, I can't get rid of it. Any ideas?

You need to get the specific names of the pests......some are really bad now (vx2, etc) and can take over an admin account in XP, remain invisible to Windows, and several other very interesting new tactics and powers.
If the normal scan programs won't kill it then you need to research it (the tough ones)by name.
It's getting worse out there.
