I've got a strange situation here. 4 XP machines with DHCP assigned addresses. Everything was working fine until the electrician came and cut down the power to install a special outlet for the copier. Anyway, one of those computers can't reach the DHCP anymore. The DHCP is a router.
I tried...
- to restart every devices (router/modem/switch)
- ipconfig /release ... /renew
- ping 127.0.0.1 (works)
- ping gateway (doesn't work)
- use another cable
- I can see a link on the network card and on the switch were that computer connects
- with a static IP
- with one of the 3 other computers that are working in that outlet.
- it’s not the personal firewall (zonealarm) (I even tried removing it)thanks

Try clearing out the ARP cache....
RUN: netsh interface ip delete arpcacheFailing that, there may be an issue that concerns the routing table or the network adapter driver.
Hope this helps

Hi
what did the electrician do exactly?
is the copier on this same lan? or completely seperate , he couldve just knocked the lan cables about!
if not how many ip addresses are allowed on by that router ie set in dhcp configuration it could be limited to 4 the copier exceeds it.
also for that pc what does ipconfig /all report?
with regards
dhcp enabled
ip address
subnet mask
gateway
dhcp server
start checking each ,the answer must be there.

I Tried clearing out the ARP cache... didn't work.
ISP won't help unless I get to level 2 support...even then! and its not of their resort... this is an in LAN problem
The copier is analog...so it is not connected to the network in any way.
The dhcp can give 50 addresses and there are only 5 nodes on my network.
It is not the wire because I tried connecting another computer using the same wire in the same network wall plug and it works.
The NIC must have been busted in a certain way after the power outage (the actual connector because the NIC seems fine to Windows).
Other info :
Like when a NIC can't find a DHCP, I get that 169.254.x.x address.
I'm going to change the NIC and see what happens.
I'll keep you in touch!
Jonathan

Must have been the NIC in relation to the power failure.
I just replaced the NIC and reinstalled the Windows system files and voila!Jonathan
