cant find hard drive

I recently tried to help a friend redo there comp....i used spotmau to wipe drive then i partioned it..when i use xp install disk,says cant find hard drive...please help

Why did you wipe the drive in the first place? Where they having problems that lead you to wipe the drive? If so the drive may have been on the verge of failing. Don't know unless you can describe the symptoms before you wiped it.

Also try booting into the Recovery Console and run DISKPART to see if it can see the drive.

Also, watch the POST screens at start up to verify the drive is being configured in the BIOS.

WinXP does not natively support SATA type hard drives. Depending on the motherboard you are using the settings in the BIOS may need to be changed or SATA drivers must be supplied at the beginning of the installation process.

One other thing to note. If the WinXP installation disk does NOT include any service packs then you will have problems with hard drives larger than 127GB.
