I wiped my hard drive clean -- and put winxp setup disk in -- that gets to a certain point -- says, 'starting windows' and then I get a message saying setup cannot continue because it does not detect a hard drive.....hellllp!!!
you will need to obtain the drivers for the drive controller card, put it on floppy and load it on setup by pressing f6.

This is a laptop isn't it? The harddrive controller should be natively supported. Boot into the BIOS screens and verify the harddrive is identified in the BIOS.
