As part of the response to my question about exporting my messages in Outlook express and getting the MAPI error message, the answer was given to see M$ KB179637. I have read this article and it states that one of the resolutions can be to change my MAPI settings. I have followed the steps but can't find outlook as one of the choices. My options are AOL8.0, Hotmail, and MSN Explorer. I guess I need to install outlook to accomplish this, but where do I get outlook. I can't find it on my computer. Thanks Bluejay

Outlook is part of Microsoft Office, versions 97, 98, 2000, 2002 (XP), 2003, and 2007. You don't need Outlook to fix the problem.

Follow the steps in Change your MAPI settings, or check out this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/178...

For future reference, Outlook Express questions should be posted in the Office Software Forum.

Jennifer. FYI I have read the article you provided as it is located at the bottom of the page for the article I provided. It doesn't apply to OE6 which is what I have. Also this post was a followup to one I posted the other day regarding backup. So this is the proper forum for this question.Bluejay

The article still applies. Did you check that setting?

If this thread were a follow-up to another thread, it should have been posted in the original thread. Being that it's an OE question, (and JW didn't delete it since he obviously didn't feel it should have been in the other post), it should have been posted in the Office Software Forum.

you know instead of scolding people you might take a look at the original thread. And besides. I posted a response in that thread and it never got answered. This seems to happen alot here so it looks like people have lost interest in the topic and therefore the only way to get attention is to start another. Bluejay

This question belongs in the XP forum as Outlook Express is not an Office product.
