I recently formated to refresh my pc again as i do every ones in a while. My router has been messed up for a while so the setup has a problem detecting my router or internet because i have to set it up manually since windows xp finds some wierd IP. Well anyway, i can explore the internet just fine but when i go to download something it shows it's prompt as usual and when it begins it does nothing.. the IE download window is open with that paper flying across the window but there is no activity.. like it can't connect.. i can't download anything.. so i can't get directx 9.0b or messenger 6. The reason i said before that my router is messed up is because i had to skip pass tons of wizards asking if i was connected and such and i think thats what messed it up.. any idea whats going on?

First off, you should be careful when reinstalling while you are connected to the internet. You are not protected that way. Anything can happen during that time. Have you tried the internet connection wizard? It may be able to connect everything for you but if you are having problems with you router it may lie in that. Have you tried downloading anything else or is it the same thing that is giving you this problem?

If you could get into Microsoft's site and was able to download then it sounds like you either still have part of the virus that you thought you got rid of or you may have adware or spyware on your system. Do you have Ad-a-ware, Spybot search & destroy and CW shredder?? If you don't, google search and see if you can get them to download. If you are lucky and can get them, run them. You should update them first but that may not be possible due to the fact that you are having trouble downloading.
