I'm doing a "bugbear" check and my antivirus software recomends that I disable system restore. When I select system restore from My Computer - Properties, I get an error

I wonder how many people that post to this board would not have to if they had their "System Restore" utility enabled; or even had a backup plan.

if you are going to disable system restore that is the dumbest thing you can do that is like the most usefull thing you can use. if you have a problem system restore and boom problem gone 99 percent of the time this will resolve just about any problem you could have i would strongly recommend that you leave this enabled on your computer

Your AV program is probably telling you that because the virus is in your system restore files. Turn system restore off and reboot. Try to do a system restore just to confirm that no restore points exist. Make sure the virus has been cleaned from your computer and turn system restore back on. Now run the AV program again. The message to turn the AV off should be gone.
Post back and let us know if this helped you.

Mo... I wonder how many more would not need to ask questions here if they did not 'fiddle' continuously!

Thanks for the comments. My intention was to disable system restore, check for the worm and then reactivate system restore ( as per my anti-virus s/ware advice).
Brown 1995's advice works fine for this.
I still would like to know why I got the error message tho'
