cant detect internet connection

I have a hp laptop.. and a LAN internet connection.. when i plug the cable in the task bar appers that im connected to internet.. but when i try to use any program that needs internet... they dont detect the connection... and in the properties of the connection appears that im only sending bytes but not recieving .. what can i do??

I think you have to set the settings on your computer according to the manual. If you're using a router, following the instructions on how to set up client's computer.

Is this a work computer? Have you verified that you indeed are obtaining an IP address?

Ive already checked the internet connection settings and they are ok... and the computer does recive an IP adress... but i cant recive data from the connection...
