CANT Delete folder

Hi. I have this problem with xp, and after serveral formats, it still exists. I have a few emply folders around on my hard drives, that nomatter what i do, i cannot delete. I get a message after about 3 minutes of an Hour Glass pointer, saying that it is being used by another progra or is read only. I have tried it in dos, and it doesnt delete. I have tried it in about 4 installs of XP and other versions of windows, they cannot be deleted

what folder? sometimes folders are shared between all Win9x-XP versions and can't be deleted regardless. make sure it ISN'T archived or read-only

HI Andrew ! what are the names of these folders? there will be some empty folders that you cant delete created by windows. RsPcT>LYNX32

I had similar problem in Win2000 due to permission settings. I did not have the correct permission to delete the folder and I did not have the user name or password for the person that set the permissions. I resolved it by backing up the folder then restoring using an option to not restore the permission settings. After restoring the folder I could delete it. May not be relevant to this problem, but hope this helps if all else fails.
