Hi. I have a couple of midi files on my desktop which I just can't delete. Although they are not big (24kb and 43kb), I can't even hide them. I keep on getting "cannot delete ..... access denied" error messages. Unfortunately, my drive is NTFS formatted, so I can't use a boot disk and go via MS-DOS. Booting up into Safe mode and using the command prompt also do not work. I've even tried restoring the system!! |Tried removing entries of these files from the registry. No luck. The files themselves can't be modified, even when I click on their properties. Anyone out there with a genius at resolving such problems?? Any help will be much appreciated.

Try pressing ctrl, alt, del, andlooking at the tasks running. If their r any that could possibly have to do wit that than end them. U might have to end them all. Then try deleting them. that should work. They could be viruses, if they r go 2 http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

right hand click on them and take out all of the attributes to them such as read only archive, hidden, system.
try again.
also try and rename the file and restart then delete it.

"Access Denied" Error Message When You Try to Delete a Filehttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q298345

This solution works 99% of the time:
1. Hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up task manager
2. Highlight explorer.exe in the process list and hit delete
3. Answer "Yes" and your desktop icons/taskbar should disapppear.
4. Click "File", "New Task (Run)", then "Browse"
5. Highlight the file you want to get rid of and press Delete.
6. Finally, run explorer.exe to restore your desktop and taskbar.

One solution is to get Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com. With it you can search the file/folder name that can't be deleted so you can see what application is using that file/folder and possibly close that application or close its handle to that file/folder with Process Explorer and after that you can delete that file/folder unless it's caused by file/folder permissions or corruption.
Sometimes explorer might leave some handles to files/folders open and this way it can be fixed without having to kill explorer.exe or reboot computer.
