cant delete files and folders

it started 2 days back when i found that whenever i tried to delete any file or folder i get the error message " cannot delete : ***** access denied. make sure the disk is not write protected or full or the file is not currently in use. the file is data file which is not currently in use. how to delete the files and folders ? i cant delete many files of such types though some cud be deleted. can anyone suggest any solution?

download and update and run adawareSE. You might be infested.
If that doesn't work insert your windows xp cd and go to run and type this exactly: sfc /scannow ... this is the system file checker and it will scan your computer and replace any damaged or missing necessary system files.
