I accidentally moved a folder/file into the Windows Prefetch folder. Don't ask how. Well now that it's there, it seems to be stuck and I can't get rid of it. I've tried "taking ownership" of the file, I've tried going into safemode. I even tried booting to a BartPE disk and I STILL get an access denied error when trying to delete it. How can this even be possible with BartPE?!

Was it a file or a folder?

Assuming it was a file, try copying it elsewhere (if this is permitted and you want the file) then use "Move on Boot" freebie program to delete it from the Prefetch folder.

It is just possible that Windows will eventually delete this as part of its routine purge when the prescribed number of Prefetch files is exceeded. This is claimed to be 128 files but mine doesn't seem to purge until the count is above 130 or so. It then drops back to about 40 files. Opening and closing a number of little used programs should bring the file count up and cause Windows Prefetch purge on reboot. You might have to repeat this until your file date is older than the rest.

I don't know why Bart won't allow its deletion but maybe it is still flagged (somehow) as being in a GUI type environment.

It's a folder. The folder might even be empty. I can't see anything in it and it doesn't have a size so it could theoretically be empty I suppose. I'm just really OCD and don't like to have empty or not folders where they shouldn't be.

I've not used Move-on-boot to delete Folders but it claims to be able to do so.

You could try Puppy Linux Live CD and see if this does any better than Barts, although its hard to see why it should.

As, you will have gathered I am just "thinking aloud" on this one - its a tad weird.

I've never heard of Move On Boot. What is that?

lesstjake182, If MoveOnBoot doesn't get rid of it try Unlocker at the link below.

You could also try Unlocker -- if the aforementioned programs don't work.

Edit: Oops, didn't see that Unlocker was already mentioned; my mistake.
