Can't delete a file

I am trying to delete a file in "safe mode" and here is what is happening. I right click on the folder and click on "delete". I get this error message first. Keep in mind the floder is empty. i.e. 0 bytes.
"The folder Fritz9 contains items whose name is too long for the Rechele Bin. Do you want to permantely delete it?" I selected "yes to all".
Then I get this error message.
"Cannot delete MsiStub: The file name you specified is not valid or too long. Specify a different file name."
