I downloaded some movies for battlefield and I am keeping some but when I went to delete one it will not delete. I have rebooted and shut down and tried everything. It says it is being used by windows please shut down the programs and try again etc. I scan everything prior to opening it and there was no virus.
What can I do? I want it out of there.
Thanks
PS: This has happened two times now. The first time after about 3 days I was able to delete the selected file.

CTRL+ALT+DELETE and click on task manager find the file in the proccess tab and click end processes.
and try to delete the file.

I tried that. I did not see it in there. Just regular system stuff. I rebooted in safe mode and canned it. Worked. Dont know if that is a bad thing but I dont know how to delete files like that in dos. Maybe someone here can explain it. Thanks

Easiest way I've found is to open up a dos window and delete the file from there. If it still won't go then use the task manager to shut down the process explorer (Under Processes tab)then again delete from the dos window that you still have on the screen. Once done goto the Applications tab and click new task then type in Explorer to get you windows explorer running again. I usually find this problem is more prevelent with large files such as avis and mpegs.

I've had this problem before when trying to delete a file. System told me that the file was in use and it could not delete. This really annoyed the hell out of me for a long time and no matter what I tried, it wouldn't delete.
Try this.
1. Move EVERYTHING out of that particular folder except the file you want to delete, or in this case, can't delete.
2. Go to command prompt.
3. Go to the directory folder that the file is located in that will not delete.
4. Enter: del *.*Note that this will delete everything in that folder so be sure you move everything you want to keep first before doing this operation!
That file should now be gone! It took me forever to remove a file before that would not allow me to delete from Windows Explorer because it told me that it was in use!

I had the same problem about deleting a file. The best and easiest way to delete a file without going through all that DOS stuff is to go to the actual file, click it with your mouse button ONCE just to highlight it......then hold down the shift key and press the "delete" button. it will confirm you to delete it without going to the recycling bin. I hope this helps.
