Can't create a local area connection-win XP

November 29, 2010 at 19:14:57
Specs: Windows XP, pentium/4 gigs
I recently replaced the hard drive in my Gateway (GM5091E). The only CD I have is the operating system CD. When I load it, it does not go to windows xp install. Instead it goes to system restore. So that is what I did, a complete restore. It seems to have worked. But I can not connect to the internet. After some investigation I have determined that I do not have a local area connection. I have gone through the wizard as well as the other common ways to establish a connection and nothing works. Can anyone shed some light on this. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
