I just purchased a X Digital Media 1GB Flash drive. After plugging it into the USB port the device appears as the E Drive, removable storage. When I try to move or copy any file, specifically a picture, to it I get the error message: "Please insert disc into drive." It seems as if XP is reading the flash drive as the CD Rom, however in My Computer the pc reads the C drive, the D Drive (which IS the cd rom), and the E Drive. This error even appears when just clicking on the device. I've removed it, shut down...tried again. It's the same every time. I have 3 USB ports and the result is the same on all three. I don't have another pc to try it on, to rule out this one. I checked the manufacturer site...they say no additional drivers or libraries needed.
Oh, and I also have a 60GB external drive which works fine on all three of the ports, but is not connected at this time.
Any ideas?

scowt, SWAG, did you ever specifically install the drive or simply plug it in? Just because your machine detects it doesn't mean it's usable.

Look in administrative tools-computer management-disk management to see if the flash drive is listed as healthy. It may need to be formatted (did you read the paper that came with the drive?) or you may have a bad flash drive and need to return it.

Go into Computer Management/Disk Management and assign a drive letter to the flash drive. Use a higher letter like L, M, N, etc.

Life's more painless for the brainless.
