Can't copy files from CD

Before I reformated my hard drive I copied/burned all my files onto a CD. Now that I am trying to copy back these files from the CD it won't let me. I am using Win2K as well as WinXP. I noticed that these files are checked as read only and I can't change it on the CD. I can't copy/paste anything, yet I can see the file and file size. Everything looks normal on the CD. I don't understand why. I used Nero to copy the CD (CD COPY) and that worked, but the errors came with with. How can I fix this? Is there some kind of diagnostics I can do? Am I screwed? PLease help.

It's normal for things to be read only on a CD, because you can only read things once they are burned to a CD, not modify them. So Nero and most burning program will mark them as "read only" because they are read only regardless. As for your problem, are you sure you're copying them and not trying to move them? That's the only thing I can think of, I also use Nero and have no trouble reading off of CD's I burn

I had a similar problem with copying. XP just wouldn't let me copy single files from the burned CDRW to the local machine. I was able to go up a level and copy the entire folder, however. If you have your files in folders, give that a try. If they are in the CD root, you may have to reburn your files into folders on another CD. This is obviously a bug in XP.
