Can't copy certain .jpg files to thumb drive

I'm trying to copy my pictures to a thumb drive. I label my pics son rides his bike.jpg, 2.We had fun at the park.jpg, etc. It loads 150 or so ok and then it will say that it can't load 151.We love New York.jpg. If I rename it 151.jpg, it will load. If I delete everything in the thumb drive and put in 151.We love New York.jpg, it will load. It's almost as if after taking so many pics, it bogs down and will not load the captions anymore although it shows that it's only 10% full. I had this happen before and I can't remember what I did to fix it. Can you help? Thanks in advance.

Are you copying the files directly to the root directory of the partition? There is a limit on how many files the root directory can contain.

I suggest you make folders and copy to those. There is also a 255 character limit on the name, if memory serves be correctly.

If you can rename it and it works then it might be a folder by that name already. As above we may need to know more.

If all you use that drive on is an xp computer maybe you could try to reformat it with ntfs. It may help.

That's it!! I remember now that I had this issue before and I had to format it with a different file system. Thanks so much. Take care!
