Hi,
I have a Gateway MT3422 laptop (Vista has been stripped and XP Home installed) and am having some troubles with it and my home wireless network (protected with WEP2 security). All computers on the network can join just fine, but when I try to join the network with the laptop, it keeps trying to receive an IP address until it says that there is limited connectivity, and I can't access the internet or the network from the laptop. In order for the laptop to connect, I have to unplug the router and plug it back in, then the laptop connects fine. But as soon as I shut it down and turn it back on again, when it tries to connect it once again gets limited connectivity. This does not occur when I use the laptop at other wireless networks, only my home one. I have tried playing with both laptop and router settings, and can't figure it out. Also, DHCP is enabled, and laptop is configured to automatically get an IP address. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Try upgrading the firmware for the router. You might want to get a consensus of opinion if netgear, as some upgrades seem to have caused problems, check out the forums for your make and model. Get the latest drivers for the wireless card. Could there be something partially obscuring the signal?

You might also want to try setting up a static IP address for the laptop, that way it will have an IP address reserved for it.
I would select an address outside the number of machines that will recieve a dynamically assigned IP.
e.g. If you have three machines that connect to the router and the gateway address is 192.168.0.1 then other assigned addresses for the pc's might be 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3 and 192.168.0.4.
I would leave a bit of space for other network devices and create a static ip of say 192.168.0.10 or select any number between upwards to 192.168.0.254
Here is an excellent tutorial below:
