I have an HP Pavilion xt953 with a lucent win (com3) modem. I recently upgraded to Windows XP from ME. Ever since, I have not been able to connect to the internet. I have networking so I switch the gateway to another pc so I could access the internet and downloaded the update for the modem driver through the xp udate site but this did not help. I only took me from error 678 to error 628. every time I attempt to connect, my computer locks up. Please Help!

actually i have the same problem as you to what i did was i downloaded 3 or 4 new modem driver that is windows XP compatible just before i upgraded to windows XP from windows ME.than i tried installing each of the driver until one of them actually work.now it has been 4 days since i upgraded to XP and everything works.you should consider updating allthe driver especially your modem and sound card.
