Lat nite I was able to surf the net with no problem. This morning I could not connect to the internet. I did not change any setting I just can;t connect. Now If I change hard drives with Win98 on it I can connect with no problems. I'am finding out that Winxp is a challenge everyday. Has anyone had this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Go to a Command Prompt and type - ipconfig /? - that will give you all of the information needed to fix your IP Problem.
If you just type "ipconfig /all" it will show you all of your ip information.
Type "ipconfig /renew" and your ip will renew its connect to the net.

If doing as FJ suggested doesn't do the trick either, then you may want to look into your network adapter properties.
Right click on My Network Places \ properties...
Right click on LAN Connection \ properties \ TCP/IP Properties...
Make sure that you're set to obtain IP address and DNS automatically. When you reboot, your NIC should release/renew your IP automatically and you should be set.
If you're still facing problems then drop to the command prompt and try these command lines in this order:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdnsAs long as you only have one NIC, the above commands should set things straight... if not, tell us a little more about your configuration and we may be able to help.

Thanks so much for your responses. I used the ipconfig commands that you recommended and when I typed Ipconfig/renew the response was: The system cannot find the file specified. Also when I typed IPconfig/registerdns the response was : The registration failed, the system cannot find the file specified. That would explain the problem. Do you know of a fix for these missing files?

It's not that you typed the command wrong, because I just tested it both ways on my machine and it worked both times.
You said that you surfed fine with the XP drive in there, and it magically stopped working the next day. And when you swapped out hard drives to one with Win98 installed it worked again. So that takes a failing NIC out of the picture. It could be that some files on your XP drive have become corrupted.
Perhaps a simple XP intallation repair would do the trick...
Lemme know if it works.
