My computer is connected to the TV, with RCA cable. I want my TV to act as a secondary monitor (clone).
I've done everything, connected the cables, downloaded the latest updates for my video card and the picture is still very bad. My TV is a simple model. You don't have many options to select.
Do you have any tips, what could be the problem?
I've done this a few years earlier. Then I didn't had any problems.
On the screen white lines are moving up and down.
This is the same TV. I just don't know what am I doing wrong. I checked the cables, even bought a new one.
My Video card is Ati Radeon 9600 SE, my monitor is Samsung SyncMaster 793DF 17"

Well since you are recieveing a picture ,even though the quality of it is not good Iam assuming you have TV Viewing ability and do not need a TV Tuner card ? Also you must have a decoder installed to redieve TV on your PC and MPEG-2 abilities my TV Wonder Elite PCI would not work untill I installed my Cine Player application ? Another concern maybe your connection to your TV via the cabling you are using ,sometimes if its a long distance from ther main connection to the TV you need to get a cable power booster, this will give your connection some added power it may need to get a better connection ? Well Iam no pro on this subject however I hope some of my suggestions where of some help to you ?
Take Care Nick

Thank you. I will try out some codec's. The cable length is only 5 meter.
Sorry if I said something wrong, but I want to watch DVD movies, pictures etc. on my TV, not TV channels on PC.

"the picture is still very bad."
Sorry! But that's normal, if you are using an old analog TV. The resolution on the old TVs is REALLY low and they are not suitable to be used as a computer monitor. A new HDTV should give you a pretty good picture if used with the proper connection.

Maybe your memory is failing. :-) A TV picture is not going to look anywahere close to a monitor. The TV has a resolution less than 640x480. But I guess if that's the resolution that you use on your monitor, 'maybe' it would look almost as good.
Ok, I just reread your post and I had missed the part that said you had white lines traveling up and down the screen. That's a different problem.

I bought new memory modules this summer. I removed the old ones, so this is not the problem. I also "played" with the resolution settings, but still nothing.
Except this , I don't have any problems with my TV. I even unplugged the receiver and hoped it will change something, but not.
I use resolution 1024x768 for my monitor.

The only thing that comes to my mind is some kind of interference. Maybe a new electronic device that uses radio frequencies for communication, that you purchased recently.
Another thought. I recently updated my PCs and now I get a little noise on those PCs when using a TV tuner.

I'm kind of at a loss. I still suspect some kind of RF interference, but I guess it could be a weak signal. Does it look like that might be it?
I assume that you are using the S-video output on your 9600 card, right? If it's not external noise, it would seem to be a problem with the 9600 card or the S-Video to video adapter cable.
I guess you could connect the video out from a VCR to the TV video in, just to make sure the TV is ok..
I just thought of something, Have you tried different resolutions on the PC. Start with the lowest resolution you have available.

Yes, I am using the S-Video output.
I noticed that my TV receiver (it's a tv receiver, not skystar) has an RCA connection, so I removed the scart cable and used the RCA to make sure that the cable is fine, and the TV is ok too, I'm sure.
As far as I can remember, my PC monitor was always on 1024x768 screen resolution even when it was connected to the TV, with a refresh rate of 75Hz.
The problem has to be in the PC, but I checked everything about a hundred times and still nothing. I uninstalled then installed the latest video card drivers a few times...
It looks like if it would have a weak signal. The screen is black with many small vertical lines moving up&down. Sometimes I can see my desktop, but with no colors and with a poor picture quality, I can't even see an icon or a picture clearly.

I didn't undertsand the thing about the scart cable. I guess you must be in the UK.
But if you have eliminated the TV and the cable, the only thing it would be in the PC would be the 9600 and I have some serious doubts about that.
I'm out of ideas. I would suggest that if you don't get any help in this forum, you try the 'Digital Home' forum. I also think it would be a good idea to try other resolutions, wouldn't hurt.
Good Luck sdterbik!

Thank you for your help. I will try adjusting the resolutions a few times.
My tv and receiver was connected together with a scart cable. I thought maybe that's the problem so I unplugged it, but it wasn't causing this.
I'm not from the UK, I'm from Serbia. :-)
I'll visit the Digital Home forum.
