Cant Change Wireless Preference Order

Hi there. Right now I'm on my university's campus which has wifi, but the connection drops in and out all the time, so i set up my own router in my room with a seperate network. However, when i try to change the preference and try to make my computer connect to my network before connecting to the schools, it simply will not let me in the wireless network settings. It says that my change cannot be saved and i cant do it. is there any way to force this change in preference?
