When changing you must also click on Apply and then OK. You are displaying the page you wish to use when attempting the change aren't you?

vandal67, If you have Spybot S&D installed open it, set it to "Advanced Mode", click on "Tools", click on "IE Tweaks", and make sure that "Lock IE start page setting against user changes [current user]" is unchecked.

Are you closing IE in between those operations? I don't think any virus would cause a default to MSN home page.

If you are using the latest version of Spybot you MUST allow the registry change in order to complete changing the home page.

Well I didn't look at the page the link took me to that closely. At the time there was an ad for MS Live. That link is just the home page for MSN.

I can't figure what you may be doing wrong.

Open the Altavista home page> select tools> internet options> use current> apply> accept change in spybot> OK in IE tools. Close IE and reopen.

You are using the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop or start button to open aren't you? Which are you using?

i removed spybot and adaware 2007, am still using noadware, but don't see any place to keep homepage from changing in noadware. i have tried both icon on desktop and under programs, but still can't get change to stick.

vandal67, Go to the link below, click on "Security", click on "Disable/Enable Setting of Default Home Page" then download the vbs file. Instructions for running it are on the page.

I am an old geezer so I don't use any IM. I tell you this because I don't know anything about the programs.

I am just taking a stab here. See if somehow your MSN hotmail account is setting your home page.

So what's the deal here? You have the same exact problem you had 7 months ago?

yes, i've had this problem for quite a while. i couldn't get it fixed then, so i thought some new input might be available, and it was. i don't know what is going on, if i did maybe i could fix it. i'm just reporting what's happening on my computer. i'm not playing with anyone, i have too much respect for this site. i realize some of what i have reported seems wacky, but it's the truth. after this response, i'll be removing this thread from my message list. sorry it caused such a stir. thanks for all your input!

Well your mistake was not to include the info you just gave us above in your original post. If you had done that we would have responded differently. In the future if you come across problem that you thought you had fixed with our help, always give us reference to past threads.

Don't remove the thread from your list.

I have another suggestion for you now that we know this problem has existed for a long time. Try performing a repair of IE6. You should be able to do that because IE5 is what shipped with Win2000.

Go to Control Panel> Add/remove programs. Click on IE6 and you should get a choice to remove or repair. Choose repair. You may need to reconfigure your internet connection after that. Just follow the prompts to do that.

My thoughts are that something is wrong with your IE6 installation. BTW, you should be running IE6.1xxxx. After you perform the repair go to windows update and see if there are any updates for IE6.
