Folks,

I've delt with broswer hijacks, etc. before...but this ones really Odd.

Brand New Computer.

AVG, SpyBot, AdAware, CWShredder all installed from the beginning.

Have scanned with all of the above multiple times....even in Safe Mode.

Have Uninstalled IE via control pannel (Windows componnets) and reinstalled.

But still....The Home Page Remains on the Home page that it was FIRST changed to.

I origally changed the home page to Yahoo.com

And that is what it defaults to now.

HOWEVER...now, when I change it to something else (IE/Tools section) it will not take. It goes right back to Yahoo.com

I've got a second account on the computer. Its home page is google/my dell ( or something similar). It does the same thing....a different page can be enter/applied in IE/Tools....but it goes right back to that googe/my dell site.

The odd thing is that the pages that the accounts are stuck on are NOT some odd/spammy/about-type page (which is what a hijack will usually do)...but these are the actual pages (Yahoo, Google, Dell) etc.

I just can't change them.

Again...I've scanned multiple times with the above items.

Using IE version 6.0.2900.

Has anyone else had this/similar problem?

Any advice Greatly appreciated.
THANKS

it seems like a registry problem, or something similar. try pointing to start, run.
now type regedit
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE===SOFTWARE===MICROSOFT===
INTERNET EXPLORER===MAIN

In the right window, find Default_Page_URL

Try changing that value to whichever homepage you'd like, and restart your computer. If all is right, Internet Explorer should go to the new homepage you specified. If that doesn't work, maybe try asking around the forums some more

If that doesn't work, try to recreate your profile. Rename the old profile in c:document and settings. Look for your profile and rename. Log off and log back in. If it fix it, browse to the same directory and move all your files over from the old profile to the new one.

kev100, If you have Zone Alarm installed some versions have been known to create Homepage problems. Uninstall it and see if you can change your Homepage. If you can download & install the latest version of Zone Alarm which fixed this problem.

Folks,

It ended up being Zone Alarm...as Tufenuf suggested.

And here's a heads-up for others.

I did uninstall ZA and could again change the homepage.

However...when I re-downloaded and installed again...but it just did the same thing.

The issue was that I downloaded from the same place as before (download.com)....and after checking this evening....I noticed that they don't have the most recent version. You have to go to ZoneAlarm.com to get that (5.2.737).

I'm assuming that if I'd reinstalled that...the homepage lock problem would have not returned (the computer in question is at another location at the time I realized the version/download.com issue).

So...if anyone else is referencing this thread about the HomePage lock issue.....when you reinstall ZA...download it from ZoneAlarm.com
