Can't change display setting back

When I turned on my computer yesterday, my display settings were the worst possible. I have tried countless times to change it back but when I move the slider to change the pixel dimensions and click apply nothing changes it just looks exactly the same. I don't know if I have a virus, and it's not the cables. PLEASE please help me!!!!!

Try settings-advanced-monitor and set the refresh rate to 60 hertz.
